This drawing began in 2024, shortly after working on Arnold Schmidt's solo exhibition at galerie gugging. Schmidt's layered, repetitive mark-making, his shifting values and opacities, and the way his forms felt like they extended beyond the page into something unresolved, left a lasting impression on me.
In response, I began experimenting with charcoal in a way I rarely do: abstractly, without a fixed plan. This piece moved in and out of storage over two years, revisited in short sessions with no goal beyond staying curious with the material. What's here is the result of that process, layered marks built up slowly until the piece felt resolved.
See Arnold Schmidt's art, it is what inspired me to make this.
