Schmidt's layered, repetitive mark-making, his shifting values and opacities, and the way his forms felt like they extended beyond the page into something unresolved, left a lasting impression on me.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eIn response, I began experimenting with charcoal in a way I rarely do: abstractly, without a fixed plan. This piece moved in and out of storage over two years, revisited in short sessions with no goal beyond staying curious with the material.
